Wrist arthroscopy cost Sydney

Arthroscopy revolutionised the field of surgery when it was first developed. Using instruments on long flexible tubes, along with cameras, arthroscopy allows a surgeon to complete a surgical procedure with much smaller incisions than for an open procedure. Although this does mean that the patient will end up with much smaller and less-noticeable scars, the benefit goes far beyond aesthetics. Smaller incisions mean a lower risk of complications such as infections and bleeding, and a quicker healing time.

What is the cost for wrist arthroscopy?

Similarly to other types of surgical procedures, the total cost for wrist arthroscopy includes several different fees. The surgical fee covers the procedure itself as well as post-operative care by Dr. Sungaran. The anaesthetic fee covers the services of the anaesthesiologist and the medications used for the anaesthesia. The hospital fee covers the use of the operating facility, as well as personnel and materials needed for the procedure. In addition, there is often a need for hand therapy (supervised by a physiotherapist) in the post-operative period. This will be an extra cost, and will be paid to the physiotherapist. See below for more information about the cost of hand therapy in Sydney.

There are many different procedures that can be done through an arthroscopic approach. Because of this fact, we cannot provide specific figures about the cost of your wrist arthroscopy on this general page. Dr. Sungaran will need to examine you in order to determine which specific procedure(s) would best serve you. After you have had your initial consultation, and Dr. Sungaran has determined the specifics of your procedure, then we will be able to provide you with a detailed estimate of the cost for your wrist arthroscopy procedure.

Is there reimbursement for wrist arthroscopy costs?

In many cases, Medicare will reimburse for wrist arthroscopy and other hand and wrist surgery procedures. If there is a gap between the Medicare reimbursement and the total cost for your procedure, then your private health fund may cover this. Because different funds have very different rules for reimbursement, it’s best to contact your fund to determine what reimbursement you can receive for your procedure. We will be happy to help you contact Medicare or your health fund, if you have any trouble getting the answers that you need.
